ASSISTANT DESIGN EXERCISES

The warm up

Sometimes when I walk into a room I see nervous people. When this happen I smile… because I know their nervousness will fade away in the next couple of minutes.

This exercise is meant to relax people. Having a laugh simply bonds people together, lightens the mood and frankly makes people perform at their best.

This is also the time when I clearly communicate that all input is valued equally, a merit of a co-creation workshop.

Although this is a warm up exercise. There is an important lesson to be learned.

Character & Personality traits

The best advice I can give you: “Don’t listen to what people say, be aware of what they do!”

This applies in real-life as wel as in digital product design. In this exercise we will define the character & personality of your assistant.

It’s my mission to humanize software design. The best way to achieve this is treat your software as an entity.

After defining the character & personality traits of your assistant we can start to imagine how your product will interact with your customers.

Emotion Mapping

Thoughts create emotions and emotions results in actions, or the lack thereof.

In this exercise we will map positive and negative emotions linked to your product or service. TU Delft, a renowned research university in The Netherlands indexed the positive and negative emotions humans have while reacting to certain situations.

In customer journeys we mainly focus on positive, negative or neutral emotions. This gives poor guidance to design decisions.

In this exercise will create an accurate frame of reference for your emotional spectrum.

Emotion mapping is a powerful tool in your digital product design arsenal.

Product Ikigai

This exercise will expose misalignment between stakeholders. By answering four questions we are able to identify if everybody is on the same page.

Defining a clear product ikigai will help everybody involved in the project to understand in which direction you are heading.

This exercise will define your reason of being.

Product Character Canvas

If there is one exercise that will make this workshop worth your money, it is the product character canvas. You will learn this one trick that will humanize your production process.

Turn away from functions and features and choose the help your customers with intent, purpose and meaning.

Help you customers. Build relationships with your customers in the digital space and sales will follow.

Have meaningful human engagements with your customers through your well balanced conversational assistant.
